CESC FABREGAS XxX

Cesc Fabregas

According to captain Cesc Fabregas, Arsenal’s win over Manchester City is not a way to determine whether the squad is more mature or not.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online, the captain explained how it seems the opinion on the Gunners changes after every game, depending on whether it is a win or a defeat. But according to the 23-year old Spaniard, it is only at the end of the season that conclusions should be made.

The midfielder added how the players are already fully focused on Wednesday’s Carling Cup against Newcastle and how they will not be carried away by Sunday’s 0-3 win.

Fabregas concluded by saying how Arsenal have a very good team with some very promising young players but it is important to achieve their objective which is to win silverware.

After the Manchester City game, Fabregas said:

It looks like after every win you have to say ‘oh, you are more mature than last year’, but it is just one more game, let’s not get carried away.

Now we have the [Carling Cup] game against Newcastle, which is the most important one at the moment.

The time to talk about if we have matured or are better than before will be at the end of the season.

In football, you know what people will say when you win, and you know what people will say when you lose.

You just have to keep focused on what you do, in training and in the game, give everything for the team and the rest is not up to you.

We have a very good team, with lots of young players. We have to make it a great time by winning things.

Marouane Chamakh NEWS

Marouane Chamakh

Together with Samir Nasri, Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh has been in impressive form during the first part of the season as he declared how he’s at the club of his life.

Speaking about leaving Bordeaux for Arsenal, the Moroccan explained how he always wanted to be a Gunner and how even though other players dream of playing for the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona, his desire was always to join Arsene Wenger’s side.

With Nicklas Bendtner returning from injury and finding the back of the net straight away, Chamakh will most likely be rested more often as he added how he always ends up “completely used” after games.

The 26-year old concluded by saying how he thought he would need one full season to settle down at Arsenal but how he is ahead of schedule and how life at Arsenal is nothing but pleasure.

On his first months as a Gunner, Chamakh said:

I’m at the club of my life.

I don’t want to see too far ahead in football. I’ll go to the end of my contract. That leaves me four good years. I played in my favourite club in France. I’m playing now in the club I’ve loved since I was small.

For others, it’s Real or Barca. For me, it was always Arsenal.

You can see that I finish each match completely used up. I take an awful lot of knocks. It’s difficult, so I want to take an enormous amount of pleasure during four years. I’m proud to be a Gunner.

At the moment it’s nothing but pleasure. Everything is exactly as I thought it was.

Whether it’s the football, the football culture, the supporters, the passion or the game itself, the speed … I haven’t been disappointed.

In the beginning I put a bit too much pressure on myself because I was following in the footsteps of Thierry Henry and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Knowing that I’ve only ever known one club, I knew I’d need at least a season to adapt, but I’m ahead of schedule.

I never imagined I’d play as much, but with suspensions and injuries, I’ve taken advantage and that’s helped me progress.

Arsene Wenger’s Injury her Player

Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger gave his usual injury update ahead of tomorrow’s game against West Ham United, at the Emirates.

Speaking on Thursday afternoon to Arsenal TV Online, the Frenchman started by confirming that left-back Kieran Gibbs will be out of action for weeks after suffering a knee injury sustained in the easy Carling Cup win against Newcastle on Wednesday.

According to the Frenchman, the youngster will undergo further tests this morning with the Gunners hoping to have the 21-year old back for the busy Christmas period.

Wenger also gave an update on the fitness level of long-term absentees Robin van Persie, Thomas Vermaelen and Aaron Ramsey. The striker and Welshman are expected to be back to full training very soon but a return date for the Belgian is yet to be set.

Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and midfielder Abou Diaby will also not be involved against the Hammers as they are respectively recovering from an elbow and ankle injury.

On Thursday, Wenger said:

We lost Kieran Gibbs last night. That is the bad news.

It is a medial knee ligament strain. It needs to be checked on the scan tomorrow but it will be a few weeks.

We have nobody else back from Manchester City. Van Persie and Vermaelen are still out. Ramsey and Almunia are not ready. So it should be a similar squad to the one that played at Man City.

But Van Persie and Ramsey are very close to coming back to full training now. They should be back in the group at the end of next week.

Of course we should not set the same [recovery] time to Ramsey as Van Persie. Aaron will need a longer period to be completely match-fit for the first team. But Van Persie is not far away now.

Manuel Almunia is maybe one to two weeks away. With Vermaelen, it is difficult to set a fixed time because his Achilles improves slowly.

Arsene Wenger on Kieran Gibbs’ injury and Theo Walcott’s performance

Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was of course delighted with his side’s performance in the Carling Cup as they eased past Newcastle on Wednesday night.

Speaking right after the game to Sky Sports, the Frenchman was full of praise for striker Theo Walcott, explaining how the Englishman is becoming more and more clinical in front of goal. Wenger highlighted the first touch of the striker as he also explained how the 21-year old is more intelligent in his decision-making.

The youngster used to be criticised for failing to deliver in the final third but according to Wenger, hard-work during pre-season saw him improve and is now ready to deliver after recovering from injury.

Asked about the injury to Kieran Gibbs, the Frenchman said how he hopes it is nothing serious as he revealed it is a knee injury which will be assessed on Thursday, hoping it’s not “a twist of the medial ligament”.

After the win, Wenger said:

[Walcott] is more composed in front of goal, the timing of his runs has always been good but his first touch has improved and his intelligence is improving.

He has worked hard since the beginning of the season. [He was] flying at the start of the season but the injury he had [prevented him progressing]. It was a strong start and you could see today he is ready.

We don’t know we have to wait until tomorrow morning to assess [Gibbs' injury] much better. We do not know now if it is a knock of if it is a twist. If it is only a knock it is only a matter of days but if it is a knee ligament then that looks to be a bit longer. But we don’t know yet.

Keown: When van Persie returns

Martin Keown

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes Andrey Arshavin could lose his regular place with the Gunners when Robin van Persie returns from injury.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the 44-year old revealed that he was impressed by Marouane Chamakh’s form during the first part of the season, explaining how the striker – who joined for free from Bordeaux – immediately made an impact with his new Club and had a positive effect on the team.

Keown said how the Moroccan brings pace and strength in the side, meaning that the Gunners have new options in the final third when they surge forward, options which they don’t actually have when Nicklas Bendtner plays.

The Englishman concluded by saying how once striker Robin van Persie makes his comeback in the squad and with Chamakh keeping his place, it will probably be midfielder Andrey Arshavin to lose his place in the regular eleven.

On Chamakh, Keown said:

Everyone is going to be talking about Arsenal’s impressive 3-0 win at Manchester City coinciding with Cesc Fabregas’ return to the side last week but what has pleased me more has been Marouane Chamakh’s form.

He came in during the summer and has had a really positive effect on the team. You can trust him in possession. Arsenal’s system means they have midfielders arriving from deep but that relies on having someone up front who can hold up the ball and bring others into play.

Chamakh’s pace and strength in the air give the side other options going forward but it is his composure on the ball that is most impressive.

Arsenal don’t wait for their front man to get control of the ball before they break forward from midfield and in the past they have been punished because of that when Robin van Persie has been injured.

The runners can trust him to get the ball to them. It is not something you get with Nicklas Bendtner, whose decision-making is not at the level it should be.

Chamakh’s form means that Andrey Arshavin is probably the player most under threat once Van Persie is fit.

Lukasz Fabianski

Lukasz Fabianski

Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is finally enjoying a brilliant spell in goal for the Gunners as he highlighted the importance of last Sunday’s win.

Speaking after the Manchester City win, the Polish International explained how beating one of the top teams in the country was really important as it now means they move on to second place and within touching distance – five points – from leaders Chelsea.

The goalkeeper, who took full advantage of Manuel Almunia’s shoulder injury, added how beating big teams is not enough as it is also important to focus and try to win all the games in the Premier League.

The 25-year old concluded by saying how the number of chances the Gunners are creating in every game is impressive but also true how these chances need to be converted in order to reach their primary objective which is to win the title.

After last Sunday’s game, Fabianski said:

It is a really important win for us because we were behind City in the league.

Now we are second and in touch with the leading team, Chelsea.

And, performance-wise, we played really well away from home and won 3-0, so yeah, it’s a very, very good win for us.

I think within the team there was always big belief, but it was still important for us to win a big game like this.

But in the fight for the title it’s not only about big games. It’s about 38 games and you have to try and win every game.

We just have to score more goals. We are more ruthless now.

We are creating chances in every single game and it’s not just about making them, it’s about taking them.

We have a big squad of good players and if you look at our squad we have a really strong squad, as strong as anyone’s.

I think we are focused on ourselves. We want to do well this season and fight for the title. That’s our aim.

Valencia put Barcelona under severe pressure and took the lead in the first half but could not cope with the home support and the attacking flair of Barcelona in the 2nd half, and the kind of season they are having this term I can see them giving rangers a very hard time on tuesday night. But With the home support fully behind them Rangers can hold on to any kind of pressure and can sneak a goal or two against any opposition when playing at home.

Arenal have played two matches so far in the champions League and have scored 9 goals so far with only one goal coming against them in the group stages. Which makes them one of the most inform team in hte compitition and since they are playing at home it will be doubly hard for the visitors to come out of this match with anything. While Shakhtar are very solid at the back and havnt conceded any goal in the tw matches they played so far in the group. It will be the kind of match where they will sit back and let Arsenal come onto them and try to catch them on the break which is the tactic they used pretty successfully sofar in the compitition.

Asked about how easy it was to settle down at his new club, the 27-year old explained that Donetsk is a very nice city where everything is close and with the Club possessing a top class ground with top class training facilities.

The striker concluded by saying how he didn’t lose contact with his friends at Arsenal as he revealed how he still talks to Denilson, Bacary Sagna, Cesc Fabregas, Tomas Rosicky and other members of the team.

    Last Tuesday, Eduardo said:

[My transfer] was very quick, I think it was a Sunday and I had to fly to Ukraine to do some exams with Arsenal in Austria for pre-season. Because of that I didn’t have time to say goodbye so I’m happy to see the people again.

The fans were fantastic during my three years at Arsenal and they will always be in my heart.

[My life in Donetsk] It’s not a small city and it’s nice, everything is close not like London where everything is big. They have a top stadium and a top training ground, they are a big club in Europe and the Brasilian players are helping me to adapt.

[I'm still in contact] with Denilson and sometimes I talk with Bacary Sagna and Cesc Fabregas. I’m actually in touch with everyone like [Tomas] Rosicky, [Lukasz] Fabianski and of course the cameraman, he’s Brasilian and helped me a lot when I came at Arsenal.
